The Silver Swans are a group of fabric artists, crafters, and quilters who come together in community to create fabric art and quilted items in support of Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary. The group has met on a regular basis since 2011. The Silver Swans group is primarily made up of senior women, many of whom once actively did restoration and environmental education on site. The group typically meets on a weekly basis for 1-3 hours and does additional crafting individually from their homes.
In 2024, 20 people were directly enrolled as Silver Swans volunteers. This program has become a vital part of our community due to its capacity to connect participants. The Silver Swans support each other through challenging times, with their friendship that transcends crafts. This program also presents an alternative way to interact with nature, breaking down barriers of what it looks like to contribute to nature conservation. 100% of the proceeds collected from Silver Swans items support nature conservation and environmental education at Swan Lake.
