Biodiversity & Conservation Work

Biodiversity

The Nature Sanctuary is comprised of two physically and ecologically distinct areas – a low wetland area around Swan Lake and a Garry oak-forested meadow on Christmas Hill.

Both habitats are vital for protecting a number of rare, threatened, and endangered plants, fungi, and animals. The Nature Sanctuary is a critical migratory bird stopover on the Pacific Flyway. We host over 200 unique species on-site over the course of the year.

Learn more about species observations on-site through our iNaturalist project or about research and restoration on-site.
