The Visitor Services program has existed in some form since the inception of the Nature Sanctuary 50 years ago. Visitor Services volunteers offer essential guidance for visitors to the Nature House – from lost and found support, to birding advice, to information about upcoming programs and events at the Nature House. Many of the Visitor Services volunteers are also empowered with their own special long-term projects, often creating much-needed seasonal curriculum activities and guides for families and children in the Nature House.
In 2024, 25 people were enrolled as Visitor Services volunteers, assisting the 15,000 community members that visit the Nature House annually. This program provides critical wayfinding resources for the community. This program has also provided space for volunteers to interpret the role in different ways and find individual ways to shine. Volunteers can pursue projects that are aligned with their professional or academic goals.

We respect the vital relationships of First Peoples with these lands and waters for countless generations. We are honoured to receive Indigenous guidance and welcome collaboration in stewardship and appreciation of the Nature Sanctuary.
