Special Teacher's Workshop Opportunity!

Project Wild Workshop

Friday, October 19, 2018, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

at the Swan Lake Nature House

Discover what makes Project WILD one of the most popular K-12 environmental learning resources in BC, with 121 interdisciplinary and adaptable activities that promote awareness, understanding, and responsible action toward
wildlife and wildlife habitat. In this lively and engaging workshop, you will participate in some of the hands-on activities in the manual to gain the experience and confi dence needed to integrate Project WILD into your teaching.


The workshop will show you how to use Project WILD activities in your lessons on science, ecology, social studies, language arts, math, art, physical education, and other curriculum areas, enabling you to begin using the manual right away. Participants receive a copy of the Project WILD Activity Guide (available in English or French).

Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary offers two types of school programs; the On-Site and the In-School programs. The On-Site programs are held at the Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary, the In-School programs travel to local area classrooms. Classes are 1 to 1½ hours long depending on the grade. All of our school programs have set goals, and are linked to the IRP (Integrated Resource Package) for the appropriate grade.

School program fees are $80 per hour. In-School programs include an extra $25 charge for travel expenses..

In-School programs are also available on-site at the regular hourly rate of $80.

On-Site School Programs:
The On-Site Programs are conducted at the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary and are offered Monday through Thursday, from late September to late November and from February to early June.

In-School Programs:
The In-School Programs are taught in classrooms during school hours. Six In-School programs are offered - Snake, Owl, Bat, Spider, From Dino Bones to Indiana Jones and (new this year) Portable Pond Program. Note: We are pleased to also offer all of our Travelling Programs in French. Other programs may also be delivered partially in French upon request. Please indicate at the time of booking if you would like your program “en Français”!

Self-Guided Tours:
Self-guided tours to the Swan Lake Sanctuary are scheduled for Wednesdays and Fridays and any open days during the school year. There is no fee but donations are appreciated. (Equipment is available to rent, by prior arrangement for $20)
